These patients are still not as trusting with hospitals and doctors. However, making that connection with your healthcare and technology has made a change for the better. Inadequate coordination of services between PCPs and hematologists or other specialists often leads to a higher rate of acute care utilization and readmission.
SCD is complex and requires a functional multispecialty care team with resources for care coordination even when a patient has been discharged.
Sickle cell has been a long-neglected illness, but many companies are now competing with treatments that each hope will be best-in-class. However, these companies will not have any feedback without the patient. Losing that trust puts a loss on potential treatments that could be a universal cure.
We want to build that bridge of trust, and emphasize those patient needs. We want to contribute to improving treatment for sickle cell and all-black rare diseases.
